Circular
Delays in the Presentment of Certain Cash Items Bound for Baltimore on May 14, 2004
May 18, 2004
Circular No. 11597

To All Depository Institutions and Others Concerned in the Second Federal Reserve District:

Early Friday morning May 14, a small private plane used to transport checks among Federal Reserve offices crashed near the Baltimore-Washington International Airport. Some of the cash letters on that plane have been retrieved and processed. However, there were other cash letters on that plane which could not be processed and that will need to be reconstructed.

Therefore, in accordance with paragraph 9.1 of Operating Circular No. 3, please be aware that we anticipate there will be delays in the presentment (both forward and return) of those cash items which were contained in the cash letters that need to be reconstructed.
