Why the Fed? |
| The Fed is unique among central banks in its strong reliance on economic research, although many central banks have been working to incorporate more economic research in recent years. Because of this reliance, the Fed has developed an excellent research culture. I’m here because I find the Fed’s research culture to be a great place to pursue my research and analysis of policy issues. |
My Responsibilities |
| I am currently Head of the Money and Payments Studies Function. The responsibilities of that role are to manage the talent of the economists and research associates in the Function, to understand the policy issues in the subject areas of monetary policy implementation and the provision of large-value payment systems in the United States and to make contributions in related research fields. |
How Is the Fed Unique? |
| The Fed is unique in many ways. It is truly international in outlook; after all, our counterparts and colleagues are in central banks in other countries. It is unique in that it has managed to develop a culture of economic research that has contributed to a strong analytical approach to public policy issues. It is also exposes researchers to practitioners, and vice versa, which allows both types of professionals to benefit by informing one another’s work with insights from the other point of view. |
