Why the Fed?

I chose the Fed for three main reasons:
  1. The mission to provide financial stability to the economy is something that motivates me and excites me. It’s a mission that I can take pride in.
  2. The type of work that we do at the Fed requires detailed financial analysis coupled with broader strategic thinking of the entire financial system allowing me to think about details and the big picture.
  3. The work-life balance with flexible scheduling allows me to have a fulfilling job and time for my family and interests outside of work.

My Responsibilities

As part of the Market Monitoring and Analysis group, I track and analyze market and liquidity risk for the 14 Largest Financial Institutions in the United States. My role is to assist in coordinating the efforts of Risk Specialty Designees across the Federal Reserve System in analyzing vulnerabilities at our institutions. As we determine vulnerabilities at particular institutions or within the system we raise our concerns to senior management at the Fed and to the Banks.

Challenges and Rewards of My Job

Since our institutions are major market- players, staying on top of market innovations is a challenge that forces me to keep learning so that I stay current with new market developments.

How Is the Fed Unique?

The Fed is unique in its role in the market place as the U.S. central bank, a bank supervisor, and its convening powers to bring market players together where markets fail. Given these many roles, working at the Fed you realize that the work in any one part of the bank has implications and uses for another, which brings all the different parts together to achieve our mission.
