Why the Fed?
For me personally, I take great pride in my work at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. My work environment is filled with colleagues who are brilliant, supportive and encouraging. The culture at the Fed strongly encourages a work-life balance that allows me to not only enjoy the things I do at work but allows me to also enjoy life outside of work. I'm able to use my academic background in graphic design, contribute to public service by helping to make the Feds role and actions understood and accessible and at the same time, Im able to spend important time with my family and friends.
As a member of Web Communications, I do a wide range of work on the Banks external website. I design graphics for print and online publications, help coordinate updates and work with our team to create new designs and ways of presenting our information and messages. The financial crisis pushed everyone in the Bank into high gear—demanding very quick thinking and creative solutions.
Challenges and Rewards of My Job
The most challenging part of my job is the need to manage my time well and juggle different projects and jobs. I often have several tasks to do at once and need to prioritize quickly. We are also challenged to think creatively about new ways to use the website. Communications is a very busy, high-energy areayou need to be able to focus on your work while keeping up with all the new developments going on in the Bank in different areas. But thats what makes the job rewarding, too. There are also constant opportunities to learn and resources available for internal and external training. There is a lot of support for developing your interests and areas of expertise.
How Is the Fed Unique?
The Fed is unique for its role in public service as the central bank, and in Communications, we help explain to the public what we do and why. In Web Communications, we work with all areas of the Bank but especially with the Markets Group, which is a unique feature of the New York Fed. Weve never been busier these days and expect that pace will continue.
