Why the Fed?

I wanted to put my passion for emerging markets and my international experience to work in service of the public good while working with a diverse group of smart, dedicated people. The Fed’s unique role in fostering international financial stability made it a great fit. Additionally, the work environment is flexible, allowing me to spend more time with my family than a similar private sector job would.

My Responsibilities

My job is to monitor and evaluate financial, economic and political developments in Russia and Emerging Europe and to provide analytical support on the region to senior management in the Bank and within the broader Federal Reserve System. A key element of this is developing and maintaining a robust network of contacts in local financial markets, academia and the broader U.S. government.

Challenges and Rewards of My Job

Being able to leverage my graduate school and MBA training, and draw on my prior in-country experience in Russia and Eastern Europe in my work at the Fed gives me great satisfaction. I suppose the most challenging aspect of the job is the need for continual learning. Emerging market banking systems, financial markets and economic and political structures are constantly evolving, so there’s a steep learning curve. Of course, that’s also another very rewarding element of the job.

How Is the Fed Unique?
The Fed’s special position at the crossroads of the public and private sectors makes it unique.
