Why the Fed?
When I began working at the Fed, I thought it would only be a starting place for my career. After being here for several years beyond what I projected, I can say with confidence that it is a great place to build a career. The Fed fosters career growth by offering opportunities for individuals to pursue career goals within the organization and across business areas. I have benefited from this several times by working in various areas within the Fed.
My business area is responsible for oversight of the Fedwire Services. The Fedwire services play a key role in the nation's payments system and enable banks and government agencies to electronically transfer funds and securities. I have responsibility for coordinating and managing projects in support of migration of the applications that support the Fedwire Services from legacy mainframe technology to a distributed computing environment.
Challenges and Rewards of My Job
The projects I work on usually involve interaction with individuals across the Federal Reserve System, banks and vendors. Each day I have the opportunity to expand my knowledge of the central banks functions and to interact with individuals who have diverse expertise. It is challenging to coordinate activities across a number of groups and rewarding at the same time to work and learn from others.
How Is the Fed Unique?
The Fed is unique because it has something for everyone. If you are seeking work-life balance—the Fed has it. If you want great health benefits and tools to manage your income—the Fed has it. If you want to join with your colleagues to play sports or work out—the Fed has it. If you want to be a part of a diverse group—the Fed has it. If you want to grow your career at a great place—the Fed is it!
