From No-Tech to High-Tech: Building an IT Career Ladder System for Rochester
We hear a lot of talk about "bridging the digital divide," but what does that really mean? How does the digital divide affect the Rochester community and its economic development?
Rochester employers need a technologically skilled workforce; at the same time, many Rochester residents, particularly those of low- and moderate- incomes, lack access to technology training. This conference looked at how to effectively address this mismatch in a systemic way. Discussion centered on the ways in which employers, educational institutions, and community-based organizations can work in partnership to create training programs that meet industry needs and provide career ladders for Rochester workers. Following the conference, a working group convened to develop an implementation plan.
